S.D.R.C. Club History

 

The Southern Districts Rifle Club was founded in 1982 after an advertisement was placed in the local paper by Andie Currie for persons interested in forming a shooting club, more than 100 people responded.

In 1984 the current site was obtained and S.D.R.C. was born. Since that time well over $100,000.00 has been spent developing the site

 

Since the beginning the club has remained very strong , with membership growing from 40 in the early years to currently 155. Women and juniors make up 22% of  the membership.

 

Range Address:  Albany Highway, Bedfordale.

Entry through Road Train Assembly area . Approximately 8klm's from the Intersection of Albany Hwy, Armadale Road and South West Highway.

S.D.R.C. Hosted Events

 

 

In recent years S.D.R.C. has hosted Two National & Six State 3P & Field Rifle Championships.

 (Some members of  S.D.R.C. hold National records).

 

Three Western Action " State Roundup" Championships including 2002 and Two Field Pistol State Titles.

 

Forty five percent of current members have passed the S.S.A.A. Range Officers and Safety Courses ensuring all Club Matches and Championships are run to the highest safety standards. Members, visitors, and  potential new members are also instructed on the correct procedures for handling firearms.

S.D.R.C. Club Facilities

 

 

The Club has some of the best facilities in Western Australia.

 

A very comfortable clubhouse, power, phone, separate scoring shed, toilets, hot showers, canteen and a licensed bar for one hundred and seventy five adults.

 

The site can also accommodate Camping and limited Caravans, plenty of car parking. BBQ'S are also available at the range.

S.D.R.C.  Range

 

 

The Club has an all weather 200m range with 27 Shooting Bays. There are racks for 70 Rifles, undercover cleaning station away from the main range, spectator area and bench rest stands for sighting in.

 

A new 50m range was completed in December  2002, this range is suited for Pistol, Western Action  and  Rimfire Rifle Competitions.

S.D.R.C. Cadet Program

 

 

The club has for many years encouraged Juniors to come and shoot, some of these include Pony Club, Boys Brigade, Scouts and Cadet Squadrons, they have all been trained on Safety and the correct use of firearms. 

 

Before each shoot the cadets are instructed on procedures from the Cadet Manual. During 2001 more than 250 Air and Navy Cadets from six squadrons shot at the S.D.R.C. range on Saturday mornings.

 

The 2002 program has started with nine squadrons, already eighteen Saturday mornings are booked through out the year and still growing.
